How To Unclog a 510 Thread Battery & Cartridge

Clogged cannabis vape cartridges are a common issue, especially as they contain thick oil. Here are a few methods to help unclog a cannabis cart:

1. Warm the Cartridge

Hold the cartridge in your hands for a few minutes to let your body heat warm it up. You can also use a hairdryer on a low heat setting to gently warm the cart for 30 seconds or so. Avoid overheating, as it can damage the cart or degrade the oil.

2. Inhale Without Power

Sometimes a simple clog can be resolved by creating a vacuum inside the cartridge. Inhale through the mouthpiece without pressing the power button (if your device has one). The suction can pull the oil into the airflow chamber and clear the blockage.

3. Use a Needle or Paperclip

Take a small, thin object like a paperclip or sewing needle. Carefully insert it into the mouthpiece or the airflow hole and gently move it around to dislodge any blockages. Be careful not to apply too much force, as you don’t want to damage the cart.

4. Blow Through the Mouthpiece

Hold the cartridge upside down (mouthpiece down) and blow gently but steadily through the bottom of the cartridge (where it connects to the battery). This can push any clogs out of the mouthpiece.

5. Clear the Airflow with a Quick Preheat

Activate the preheat function on your vape battery if available. This warms the oil without vaporising it, making it flow more easily. If your battery doesn't have pre-heat, pulse the power button (press and release quickly) a few times to gently heat the oil.

6. Take Short, Gentle Puffs

Taking hard pulls on the vape can sometimes cause oil to flood the coil and lead to clogs. Take gentle, short puffs instead of long, hard draws. This allows the oil to vaporise without overloading the airflow.

7. Use a Hairdryer (Low Heat)

For more stubborn clogs, gently warming the cart may help. Turn on a hairdryer on low heat and hold it about 15-20cm away from the cartridge. Heat for 30-60 seconds to soften the oil, then try using the cartridge again.

8. Disassemble and Clean

Some cartridges can be partially disassembled, which makes it easier to clean out clogs. If possible, unscrew the mouthpiece or any detachable parts. Clean the inside of the mouthpiece and the airway with a cotton swab or pipe cleaner.
