GrindeROO Herb Grinders FAQs

How finely should I grind for a vaporiser?
Aim for an even, medium grind, roughly the texture of coarse ground coffee, and keep it fluffy rather than packed. Convection devices need airflow to work at all, so an over-fine grind that compacts will strangle them. Conduction and hybrid devices like the Mighty+ Medic are more forgiving but still perform better with an even grind. The most common mistake is grinding too long: a few twists is usually enough.
Three-piece or four-piece: what is the difference?
A three-piece grinder has a lid, a grinding chamber and a collection chamber. A four-piece adds a mesh screen and a second chamber underneath, which catches the fine residue that falls through. Four-piece grinders are larger and heavier; three-piece grinders are simpler, lighter and easier to clean. For most patients a three-piece is plenty. If you want everything the plant has to give and do not mind the extra bulk, go four-piece.
What does threadless mean?
The DRoo uses magnets to hold the lid on instead of a screw thread. Threads on aluminium grinders are the part that wears, seizes and cross-threads, especially once resin builds up in them. Magnets remove that failure point entirely, and the lid comes off with a pull rather than a twist. If arthritis or grip strength is a consideration for you, threadless is noticeably easier to open.
Metal or timber?
Metal grinders cut faster, last longer and clean more easily, which is why most people use them. Timber is lighter, warmer to handle and quieter in a bag or a drawer. The TimbeRoo is the timber option here. One care note: do not soak a timber grinder in isopropyl the way you would a metal one. Brush it out and wipe it instead.
How do I clean a grinder?
Brush out the teeth and the screen regularly, before resin has a chance to set. For a metal grinder, a periodic soak in isopropyl alcohol followed by a hot rinse and thorough drying will bring it back to new. Freezing it for twenty minutes first makes the resin brittle and easier to knock loose. Timber grinders should be brushed and wiped only.
Which grinder suits the Mighty+ Medic or a dosing capsule?
Any of them will produce the right consistency; the practical question is volume. If you are filling dosing capsules in batches, a four-piece with a larger chamber saves refilling. If you are grinding a single dose at a time, a three-piece is easier to handle. We also stock the Storz & Bickel herb mill, which is sized specifically for their filling chambers and dosing capsules.
